With the development of society and the improvement of living standards, the life span of human beings has been significantly prolonged.  It is predicted that in China, the population of people aged 65 and over will exceed 250 million by 2025, accounting for more than 7 percent of the total population. Inevitably，China is stepping into an aging society.  In addition，the one-child policy and the increase of working couples further aggravates pressures on the family and society.  How to let senior citizens enjoy their healthy and happy late years has become a subject the whole society should be concerned about.

Though the number of nursing homes has been increasing in China, bound by Chinese traditional value and the emphasis on filial piety, many people are hesitant about sending their parents away to live in a nursing home.

In response to the demand, senior daycare centers - a new mode of nursing facility – came into existence. Similar to daycare centers for kids, elderly parents are dropped off at the senior daycare centers in the morning and picked up to go home in the evening, thus solving the problem of having no one to care for elderly parents during the day when young people are away at work. 

In senior daycare centers, the elderly can read, play cards or chess, or engage in simple cultural or physical activities under the instruction of the service staff.  These programs not only help the elderly dispel the feeling of loneliness but also enhance their health, stimulate their brain, and slow down aging.  Most important of all, the elderly get to go home everyday to be with their children and enjoy family life.  These senior daycare centers cost much less than traditional nursing homes and are becoming more and more popular among the elderly people and their children.
