A Trip to Nanjing
by Nie Beining
Translator:Florence Chen, Sherlotte Jin

I went to Nanjing during my summer vacation. The scenery there was really good.
I went to Confucius Temple on the first evening. I ate many famous snacks and enjoyed the beautiful night view of Qinhuai River. The boats on the river slowly floated with lights on. It was fabulous!
We came to Xuanwu Park the second day. There were lotuses blooming on Xuanwu lake and a fountain in the middle of the lake. We arrived in Yuhuatai Memorial Museum of Martyrs after climbing up about 100 stairs in the afternoon. My father told me that Yuhuatai was a guillotine where the enemies cruelly killed the Chinese communists. Many revolutionary martyrs, especially many young people, died there. Their moving deeds let me feel that our life would not be so happy without their pain. At that time, I understood why the adults always asked us to treasure my happy life. When I was about to leave, I bought a few Yuhua stones as souvenir in order to memorize this moment.
During this trip I was very happy and also learned a lot from it. It must be the most meaningful trip I will never forget.
